Christina Franco discusses "Arctic Inquirer" at TEDxYYC 2012. Christina Franco is an arctic explorer, travel guide, conservationist, amateur cook and mother. Her love and appreciation of the power of nature began as she embarked upon a photography career. From there she added cheeky and challenging historical trekking tours of Italy and Africa to her career. It was not until 2005 after participating and winning a race to the magnetic north pole that she focused her attention full time on the Arctic. Always one to forge her own path, Christina has twice attempted to be the first solo woman to reach the geographic North Pole and has the intention to keep trying. She grew up in Chicago, then Italy, then New York, where she remained through to the end of her Photography Degree at NYU, followed by post grad work at Rhodes in South Africa. Christina is currently on the Board of Save The Rhino International and past board member of the Wilderness Foundation. With a strong commitment to education Christina continues to give talks to, or involve schools in her various treks and adventures, to inspire the next generation to follow their dreams even if those places appear cold and inhospitable. Christina lives in London, UK with her toddler Vittorio. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
