The do-it-yourself revolution: Areti Markopoulou and Tomas Diez at TEDxThessaloniki

4y ago

Have you ever imagined the possibility of fabricating your own products at home? Designing your own objects on your computer and then printing them on a 3D printer? This is what the third industrial revolution is all about. Athena Markopoulou and Tomas Diez argue that everyone may have a personal lab at home and that it's about time to produce more than trash. Their pioneering work at Fab Lab is more than good news. Areti Markopoulou, architect, Director of R+D at IAAC and Tomas Diez, urbanist, Director of Fab Lab Bcn, are co-founders of Studio P52, an international platform for transcending the boundaries of individual's creativity. Areti and Tomas are based in Barcelona, where they teach and lead projects related with new approaches to the production of architecture, technology and urbanity at different scales that will lead us to the future cities. Their research explores how Energy, Information and Fabrication could lead to optimum future city models, where technology and citizenship will play a protagonist role in the production of a more efficient and responsive habitats that would adapt to our behavioral changes over time. About TEDx: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
