Description

LYRICS BELOW!!!!! Colin Serkowski has stuttered severely ever since he learned to talk. When he sings or raps though, he is perfectly fluent. He was the Class of 2012 Salutatorian at Hanford High School in Richland, Washington, and instead of a traditional speech, he wrote a rap so that he wouldn't stutter on stage in front of about 5,000 people in the arena. His story of overcoming his disability was shared in newspapers all around Washington state, and he is an inspiration for anyone to overcome their disabilities and follow their dreams! Intro: Good afternoon, my name is Colin Serkowski, and I'm a severe stutterer So instead of a traditional speech, I'm gonna rap, to overcome my stutter Verse: If I was just another dusty record on the shelf And this was just another class in two thousand twelve If we were all ordinary, and all the same We wouldn't be here together graduation day And all my life I had to learn how to push through The fact that I've been stuttering since the age of two You never knew all the pain that you might have caused When I hear you making fun of the way I talk But I have never let it slow me down Whether in the classroom or on the pitcher's mound It will be a part of me and that will never change I took a chance, got up on stage, and sang with Taylor Kain Go ahead, it's okay to follow your dreams Work hard and you can be who you want to be, it worked for me Live a full life with no regrets Touch the rim, never settle just to touch the net Keep friends in your life as long as you live Some are temporary--and some will never give Friendships are there when life knocks you off your feet Growing up two friends have always had my back, Finn and Pete Competing is what I do best Certain traits will give you separation from the rest Falcon Pride and dedication learned from Coach Mayer DeWitz guided me to be a college level player Playing baseball forever—will be my passion Trinity offered me four more years of action For most of you, life will take you all round the globe But for all of us, Hanford High will be our home Made all these memories over the years But the best ones I have were when I faced my fears Don't waste opportunities, you only get a few Just know you only live once, there's no round two Thank you to all the parents of this amazing class Thank you teachers, for motivating kids to pass Thank you friends, for always staying by my side Because of all of you I truly have enjoyed the ride I can't believe how fast time has gone, but now we're here In a moment we'll be throwing our caps in the air But right now it's a new beginning, so treat it well NEVER will I forget, the Class of Twenty Twelve Thank you By Colin Serkowski Written by Colin Serkowski and Tommy Cassidy
