Description
On November 18th 1998, Dr. Robert Sapolsky (Professor of Neuroscience at Stanford University) presented an overview of the disruptive effects of stress on memory and brain aging. It was followed by a Q/A session. ====Regarding Chronic Stress==== _ Quran 009:51 : "Say: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our protector": and on Allah let the Believers put their trust." _ The beloved messenger of Islam, Mohammed, is reported as having instructed : "Whoever has the Hereafter as his main concern, Allah will fill his heart with a feeling of richness and independence; he will be focused and feel content, and this world will come to him in spite of it. Whoever has this world as his main concern, Allah will cause him to feel constant fear of poverty; he will be distracted and unfocused, and he will have nothing of this world except what was already predestined for him." _ The beloved messenger Jesus is reported as having said (NIV, Luke 12:22) : "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!. Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life ?. Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest ?". *** The accusation that Islam do encourage passivity and fatalism is baseless to say the least (I am talking about Islam not about muslims) : _ Quran 013:011 : "Verily Allah does not change men's condition unless they change that which is within themselves". _ "One day Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, noticed a Bedouin leaving his camel without tying it. He asked the Bedouin, "Why don't you tie down your camel ?." The Bedouin answered, "I put my trust in Allah." The Prophet then said, "Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah". (as reported by Tirmidhi)
