Ever wonder what it is like to travel by Recreational Vehicle (RV) for a few days? This is a video of my first RV road trip starting in Ventura, California and driving to Laughlin, Nevada. From Laughlin we head to Lake Havasu, Arizona before returning to Barstow California and finally Ventura. The RV road trip started at camperentalsusa.com in Ventura, California where I rented a Freelander 29' rig. Driving along historic route 66 (now mostly freeways) there was snow on the San Bernardino mountains, and this was Spring Break. First challenge, How to park a 29' RV in a 10 foot parking space. You stick out like a sore thumb! A gas station in the California desert, called Oasis, isn't exactly an Oasis when regular gas is $5.29 a gallon! Wait I thought this stuff came from the desert? "We have no choice but to be here -- we have already spent a fortune on this business - to run it in the middle of nowhere costs us a fortune - thank you for not complaining to our employees" This was the sign at the Oasis cashier. I guess they get a few complaints about the pricing. First stop, the Riverside Resort RV Park in Laughlin Nevada (Riverside resort.com) Hooking up is hard to do but only for the first time. Lets tour our beautiful RV home There is a TV and DVD An upper bunk. The lower couch turns into a bed A fully stocked kitchen with natural gas A king size bed (sometimes with natural gas) A bathroom with a lot of natural gas! ... and a shower with a hand held shower Laughlin at night lights up like a mini Las Vegas and no better place to take in the sights than the Riverside Resort Casino. There are slot machines, bowling alley, dance club, winners lounge, losers lounge and even a multiplex movie theater -- and next to the popcorn concession stand is a full liquor bar. That can make movies a lot better! At the 24-hour restaurant there is the story of Don Laughlin who bought a small riverside motel many years ago and expanded the town with his name on it to a thriving destination for budget gamblers. Next stop - renting jet skis to go on the Colorado River: Watercraftadventures.com At AVI Resort, south of Laughlin near the California border is anIndian casino with a white sandy beach, and Italian restaurant The drive from Laughlin to Lake Havasu takes you through Nevada, Califiornia and Arizona... guess who has the worst maintained roads ... California! Golakehavasu.com We stayed at the Crazy Horse campground on Lake Havasu, near London Bridge and rented more jet skis and boats from London Bridge Watercraft -- lakehavasubestboatandjetskirentals.com To sum up the trip: Ventura California to Laughlin to Lake Havasu back to Calif was 820 miles and cost $1600 in gas and rental fees. But 4 days with your teenager was priceless.
