Rio+20: Darren Swanson, Deputy Director, International Institute for Sustainable Development
1y agoDescription
Rio+20 (13/06/2012) – Darren Swanson, Deputy Director and Natural and Social Capital Program Leader at the International Institute for Sustainable Development tells the studio that there is great optimism to be taken from the diverse schedule at Rio+20 and all of the initiatives taking place on the ground outside of the main talks - with groups self organising and doing innovative things for a common purpose. For the IISD sustainable development is a important and a simple principle which is both about having a forward looking perspective and seeing sustainable development from the perspective of future generations and having an integrated perspective which includes the environmental, the social and the economic. Wherever the discussions over the next two weeks take us, Swanson, stresses this intrinsic idea should not be forgotten.
