This week's Fanboy Faceoff is all about girl power as we pit two of the action-horror genres toughest ladies against each other with Resident Evil's Alice taking on Underworld's Selene. Despite video games having a pretty dismal track record when it comes to success on the big screen, one of the few success stories is the Resident Evil series that made its debut in 2002. The franchise has brought in over $675 million at the worldwide box office over four films and will add to that total come September 14th when Milla Jovovich returns as "Alice" in Resident Evil: Retribution. Though not as successful as Resident Evil, the Underworld franchise has found success over four films grossing nearly $400 million at the worldwide box office. The success of the film is due in large part to star Kate Beckinsale's portrayal as the Death Dealer Selene. The series had its biggest hit earlier this year with Underworld: Awakening which saw Beckinsale return as Selene in the lead role. At the surface, these two fighters seem very similar both in strength and fighting style. They are both proficient in the use of various weapons, especially firearms like dual wielding pistols. One major advantage Selene possesses over Alice is the fact that she is a vampire, which makes her immortal. Her vampire blood grants her superior physical attributes including superhuman strength, agility, speed, stamina and healing powers. Her powers were increased tenfold in Underworld Evolution which also allowed her the ability to withstand direct sunlight, which would be deadly to most vampires. Though Alice may not be immortal or posses the superhuman strength of a vampire, she is no lightweight. She has extensive martial arts training as a former security covert operative for the Umbrella Corporation and gains superhuman abilities of her own including increased strength, speed and agility as a result of exposure to the T-virus. She even at one point gains telekinetic powers that gives her the ability to kill someone with merely a glance. Despite losing these abilities in the later films, Alice still manages to be an expert in the use of weapons. In this battle of action-horror heroines, there can be only one winner and that's where you come in. Do you think Alice's expertise in weapons stand a chance against the immortal power of a centuries old Death Dealer? The decision is in your hands.
