Rock in Rio é um festival de música originário do Brasil idealizado pelo empresário brasileiro Roberto Medina e realizado pela primeira vez em 1985. Originalmente organizado no Rio de Janeiro, de onde vem o nome, tornou-se um evento de repercussão mundial e, em 2004, teve a sua primeira edição fora do país em Lisboa, Portugal. Ao longo da sua história, o Rock in Rio teve dez edições, quatro no Brasil, quatro em Portugal e duas na Espanha. Em 2008, foi realizado pela primeira vez em dois locais diferentes, Lisboa e Madrid. Em 2013, será realizado em Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2013, Buenos Aires, Argentina, will be the fourth, and in 2014 Lima, Peru will be the fifth. Four incarnations of the festival were in Rio de Janeiro, in 1985, 1991, 2001 and 2011, five in Lisbon, in 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012, and two in Madrid in 2008 and 2010. The shows were organized by Brazilian entrepreneur Roberto Medina. In 2011, Rock in Rio returned to its original location, Rio de Janeiro, with a new line-up of singers and groups. Las tres primeras ediciones del festival fueron en Río de Janeiro (Brasil, en 1985, 1991 y 2001) y las dos siguientes en Lisboa (Portugal, en 2004 y 2006). En el año 2008, se celebró una nueva edición del festival, siendo la primera semana de conciertos en Lisboa y la segunda semana en Madrid (España). La última edición fueron en Rio de Janeiro en 2011 y la de este año 2012 se ha vuelto a celebrar en Madrid, con el patrocinio de Neox y Los 40 Principales como canal y emisora oficial del festival, respectivamente. Por otro lado, en 2013 se sumará una edición en Buenos Aires (Argentina) y el 2014 en Lima (Peru).
