Description
song: "Purple Rain" by Prince and The Revolution All rights to the sound recording owned, administered by Warner Music Group (WMG), and Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) Prince (born Prince Rogers Nelson; June 7, 1958) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and actor. He has produced ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career. He established his own recording studio and label; writing, self-producing and playing most, or all, of the instruments on his recordings. Purple Rain is the sixth studio album by Prince, the first to officially be credited to Prince and The Revolution, and is the soundtrack album to the 1984 film Purple Rain. Album was released by Warner Bros. Records on June 25, 1984. Prince wrote all of nine songs on the album, some with the input of fellow band members. Purple Rain is regularly ranked among the best albums in music history. Prince won two Grammy Awards in 1985 for Purple Rain, for Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, and Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or TV Special. The album was nominated for Album of the Year. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. The album sold 13 million units in the United States, earning a Diamond Award from the Recording Industry Association of America. According to Billboard magazine, the album spent 24 consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard album charts (August 4, 1984 to January 18, 1985) becoming one of the top soundtracks ever. The album has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. Purple Rain Lyrics: I never meant to cause you any sorrow I never meant to cause you any pain I only wanted to one time see you laughing I only wanted to see you Laughing in the purple rain Purple rain, purple rain Purple rain, purple rain Purple rain, purple rain I only wanted to see you Bathing in the purple rain I never wanted to be your weekend lover I only wanted to be some kind of friend Baby I could never steal you from another It's such a shame our friendship had to end Purple rain, purple rain Purple rain, purple rain Purple rain, purple rain I only wanted to see you Underneath the purple rain Honey I know, I know I know times are changing It's time we all reach out For something new That means you too You say you want a leader But you can't seem to make up your mind I think you better close it And let me guide you to the purple rain Purple rain, purple rain Purple rain, purple rain If you know what I'm singing about up here C'mon raise your hand Purple rain, purple rain I only want to see you Only want to see you In the purple rain. ("Purple Rain" as written by Prince Rogers Nelson Lyrics © Universal Music Publishing Group) Song Purple Rain is used in this video in fair use to express its vitality even after 28 years, and also with the intention of the positive review. Actually, I was recently at a party where Purple Rain was played on vinyl. Some younger people asked who performed that corking song, and I told them the story of Prince ... That's why this song is on my YouTube channel now, and also a story about Prince, to learn younger, and to remind older, that great music lasts forever. Many people wander what phrase "purple rain" actually means? The term "purple rain" belongs to more than one generation, and it has become almost common parlance. Dewey Bunnell of the 1970s rock group America wrote the lyrics to "Ventura Highway", where we first find reference to "purple rain", "... Waitin' for the early train / Sorry boy, but I've been hit by purple rain ...". Prince used the same phrase, "... I never meant to cause you any pain / (...) / I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain ..." Prince's song was written specifically for the context of the film. If you try to find out the meaning of his "purple rain", maybe the best answer comes from prince.org: "Prince has always said the meaning is there if you look for it. We can sit all day and discuss them and argu...
