Description
Strohviols were invented by John Matthias Augustus Stroh in 1899 to aid in the recording of violins and other stringed instruments into the acoustic horns of the pre-microphone recording machines of the day. Since only the best violinists were recorded, it became a status symbol to own one. Once the microphone started coming into use in 1925, they became mere curiosities. They tend to sound like an old 78 record. I've tried to improve the sound of this one with some modernization. The melody is an Italian waltz: Valse Mezzanotte. (Midnight Waltz)
