It looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to see director Baz Luhrmann's 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby as Warner Bros. has pushed the release from Christmas 2012 to Summer 2013. So why the move? According to the studio, the plan is to give the film the chance to be seen by the largest audience possible and they think summer is the best time for it. Sounds logical, but could there be something more to it? Some people are pointing to Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained as the main culprit citing the studio doesn't want its film having to compete with that other big movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio plays a ruthless slave owner in the film and the all-star cast could not only hurt Gatsby's box office chances, but also DiCaprio's Oscar chances for a Best Actor nomination if he ends up splitting the vote with himself. This isn't the first movie Warner Bros has pushed from this year to 2013. They recently moved Gangster Squad starring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Sean Penn from September to January following the tragic shooting in Colorado and earlier this year moved Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Killer from this past summer to March 22nd, seemingly to avoid the overcrowded slate of movies that were dominated by superhero flicks. Regardless of the reason, we're sad to have to wait so long to see The Great Gatsby and now are wondering which movie will undoubtedly jump in to take that prime Christmas release date now left vacant.
