Launch of the SA Bike Blackspot app by Greens MLC Mark Parnell & Senator Scott Ludlam

4y ago

06/07/2012: The Greens have launched a new app to dob in cycling blackspots in South Australia. Cyclists will now be able to easily report safety concerns on the spot -- with their report sent straight to the State and Federal Government for action. "For too long the need of cyclists for safe, easy passage has been ignored by the SA Government," said SA Greens Parliamentary Leader Mark Parnell. "The home of the Tour Down Under is also home to some notoriously dangerous cycling blackspots. This easy to use app will increase the pressure on Transport Minister Patrick Conlon to treat seriously the concerns of thousands of South Australian cyclists. "Safety worries remain one of the biggest barriers preventing more people from getting on their bike. The quicker these safety blackspots are fixed up the better," he said. Senator Scott Ludlam, Greens infrastructure spokesman in Adelaide today for the launch said, "We have launched the app in Western Australia and Victoria and it's been a huge success. "Hundreds of cyclists have used the app to draw attention to the urgent need for cycling infrastructure improvements in their area." "Cyclists around Australia who are rightly fed up with being endangered, ignored and neglected by Governments are invited to share their experiences and help us to make the case for why cycling funding is urgently needed," he said. The 'Bike Blackspot' app allows cyclists to record the location and type of problem, attach a photo, notes and then automatically email the SA Transport Minister and the Greens. All Blackspots recorded go onto a map at The app can be downloaded here:
