http://www.kanataraceday.com In today's world we are confronted with a number of serious health and social issues -- obesity, diabetes, depression and suicide to name a few. The trend towards a sedentary lifestyle is recognized as a major contributor towards many of our health and social issues. With the increased awareness of these issues, recreation professionals, policy makers, health care providers, public safety officers and educators need to better understand the benefits that recreational activities, facilities and programs play in addressing these concerns. There is a need to make physical activity fun, safe and accessible to address these alarming health trends. Members of the Community must be the catalyst to make recreational activities more available and actively promote the link between recreation and better mental, physical and societal health. Through Kanata Race Day, our goal is to bring awareness to and raise funds for the new Richcraft Recreation Complex in the Kanata North Technology park. This world class facility will not only serve the local community but also play host to many events bringing people in from around the globe. It will serve to help develop our youth, improve their education and deter them from negative behaviors. It will help families recreate together and allow seniors and individuals with disabilities to be actively engaged in recreation who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to do so. It will have a huge economic and social impact in the well-being of families and help create bonds that last a lifetime. With many causes to support and participate in it's not always easy to decide which ones to be a part of. By taking part in the 1K or 5K events you are not just helping fund the new Richcraft Recreation Complex but you're also being proactive in living an active healthy life and raising the bar for others to follow. Living a healthy, happy life and helping others do the same is not easy. But it can be achievable if we do it together. We truly appreciate and thank you for all your support and leadership.
