07032012: John J. Whiting, the suspended North Providence police chief, was found guilty on Tuesday of stealing $714 from a stripper following a car chase last summer. Superior Court Judge Daniel A. Procaccini announced the verdict minutes after the defense and prosecution made closing arguments in the non-jury trial. Procaccini also found Whiting, 58, of North Attleboro, Mass., guilty of solicitation to receive stolen goods. Both charges are felonies. Pro
