June 6, 2011: Parrish Art Museum's Alicia Longwell, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator, Art and Education interviewed the 99 year-old Anne Porter for the Parrish's East End Stories database. Anne passed away on October 10, 2011, just one month shy of her 100th birthday. Anne Porter (1911-2011) was an accomplished poet, and wife of the late artist Fairfield Porter. Together, they raised five children, and Anne often served as the subject of Fairfield's drawings and paintings. Though she wrote poetry throughout her lifetime, her works were not published until long after her husband’s death in 1975. Her first collection of poems, An Altogether Different Language, was a 1994 National Book Award Finalist. Her last publication, Living Things: Collected Poems received praise from Publishers Weekly, and is frequently read on Garrison Keillor's The Writer's Almanac.
