As sure as April showers bring May flowers, we have already begun to see another sign of spring and not one that we generally look forward to. What am I referring to, well the background of the Lions Gate Bridge may be a hint that we now need to keep a keen eye open for potholes. Other than watching for potholes, and noting where ones are located from recent travels there isn't too much you can do to avoid hitting one this spring. Taking into consideration that you are likely to hit one or more of these craters there are at least two things you can do to reduce the damage. The first is to keep your tires properly inflated, an under inflated tire will increase the likelihood of damage to your vehicle when hitting a pothole and it also reduces fuel economy. The second preventive measure is to avoid the natural instinct to hit the brakes when you see a pothole. In addition to increasing the likelihood of causing someone to rear end you, the application of a heavy foot on the brakes will transfer vehicle weight and momentum to the front of the car and could cause more damage than simply hitting the pothole direct on.
