Description

A look at molecules that replicate the HIV virus genome. I created this animation for display on a planetarium dome at the 2012 Biophysical Society meeting in San Diego. This version shows half of a 180 degree fish-eye projection (half of a hemisphere). My aim was to combine HIV molecular structure models from many experimental research labs. Most of the molecular models come from the Protein Data Bank. The free software used to view the models and create the animation was UCSF Chimera http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera Flat screen projections are available at the following web site http://www.cgl.ucsf.edu/chimera/data/hiv-rna-jan2012/story.html
