Graham Alexander signed off his playing career by curling home a free-kick in stoppage-time to earn Preston North End a draw against League One champions Charlton Athletic at Deepdale. Preston North End legend Graham Alexander made a heroes return to the Club in August 2011 following a four year absence. Previously the 39-year-old spent ten seasons with the Lilywhites between 1999 and 2007 where he clocked up an impressive 400 appearances in all competitions. Scoring 63 goals in his initial spell at Deepdale, Grezza plyd his trade at right back before becoming accustomed to his midfield role whilst in a four year spell with east Lancashire rivals Burnley. Known for his top rate penalties over the years, Alexander has played at all levels in the professional footballing pyramid including a one-year spell in the Premier League. Grezza started his career at Scunthorpe in 1991 before moving to Luton Town four years later for a fee of £100,000. Alexander remained at Kennilworth Road until former manager David Moyes brought the full-back to Deepdale towards the back end of the 1998-99 season. The following season Graham helped Preston win the second division title before going on to play in two Championship play-off finals and one play-off semi-final for the Club. In 2008 Alexander left Deepdale for Burnley where he made 154 league appearances for the Clarets before falling out of contract in the summer of 2011. Having made over 1,000 professional career appearances, Graham is one of the modern era greats and will no-doubt one day make a top class manager. Alexander is contracted with North End until the summer of 2012 when he will be approaching his 41st birthday.
