Description

A Kelowna filmmaker is back in town to tell the story of Bob Purdy, another Kelowna man whose story CHBC News brought you earlier this year. Filmmaker Carey Missler shot a portion of a surfing documentary, called the Canadian Surfing Movie, with Purdy on Sunday at Rotary Beach in Kelowna. Purdy has been stand up paddling around Okanagan Lake every day this year to raise environmental awareness. Missler is traveling across the country to shoot different stories about surfing; he will stop in Nova Scotia to film about ocean surfing, Montreal for a segment about river surfing and Lake Ontario for a story about lake surfing. Missler says Purdy’s story is an important one to tell. “It is a huge part of surfing and surf enthusiasts all around the world,” Missler said. “It is extremely fun as well and it seems that it is really catching on. Bob has a lot to offer with stand up paddlers in the communities so it is a great fit for the part.” “There has been a little tension between surfers and stand-up paddle surfers worldwide so when I got the call from Carey to be involved in the movie, I thought great,” Purdy said. “Just to ease that tension and show that it is possible for surfers and stand up paddler surfers to co-exist a little bit… it is a cool project.” The Canadian Surfing Movie will be released online at the end of 2012.
