Description
For the first time in its history, in December 2009 a Giro d'Italia's Pink Jersey shirt crossed in front of the Capitol in Washington. Wearing it was the Mayor of the District, Adrian Fenty, immediately after having met with the Director of the Giro, Angelo Zomegnan, and Italian Ambassador, Giulio Terzi, to discuss an unprecedented plan in either Italian cycling history or the capital of the U.S.: having the Giro d'Italia 2012 begin in Washington. The Giro d'Italia Team was in Washington in late February 2010 to present its bid during a ceremony at the Italian Embassy (see video).
