http://www.davidmhyde.com Bassist David Hyde was 8 years old when he formed his first band. A native of Hammond, Louisiana, he was playing mostly black nightclubs by the time he was 12 years old. Being tall and big for his age, he was able to pass for 18 to get into those places. It was in the black clubs that Hyde had an opportunity to hear and be influenced by the great blues legends of the time. Bobby Bland and Little Milton. His ongoing love affair with music ever since has resulted in a bassist of exceptional talent. From roadhouse nightclubs with chicken wire stretched in front of the stage to protect the band from thrown beer bottles to Bill Clinton's presidential inauguration, Hyde has seen and played them all. He played for President Bill Clinton while touring with famed rhythm and blues singer Delbert McClinton. Hyde also appeared in the Paul Newman movie, "Blaze." He appeared on the "Tonight Show" with Jay Leno in 1993. He was the staff bass player for the world famous" Louisiana Hayride" in Shreveport, Louisiana. In 1995 he was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame when he was playing with the Boogie Kings. He appeared on Austin City Limits with Marcia Ball, blues singer Tracy Nelson and New Orleans soul queen Irma Thomas. He was featured with Grammy Award winner Clarence Gatemouth Brown on "Jazz Central" on the Black Entertainment Television Network in 1997. David has played several festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. In addition to above, this musician has toured much of the world and recorded with some of the top names in the business; Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Bo Diddley, Bonnie Bramlett, Spencer Davis, Percy Sledge, Felix Cavaliere, and more recently the legendary American songwriters Bobby Charles and Dr. John. Recording credits include Jackson Browne "The Pretender". Fats Domino "Alive and Kicking", Bobby Charles "Last Train to Memphis", Clarence Gatemouth Brown "Back to Bogalusa", and the new Delbert McClinton CD/DVD release "Acquired Taste". David Hyde is a musician completely focused on his craft with no deviation from that chosen path no matter what the circumstances. In an effort to greater enhance his skills, he continuously seeks masters to study with. He is currently studying jazz with Hank Mackie, a recipient of numerous jazz education awards. He also studied with Richard Davis at the University of Wisconsin, Joe Cacibauda (author and bassist with Henry Mancini Orchestra) and Robert Rohe former principal bassist with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. One of the teachers he has been fortunate enough to spend time with is his all time idol "The Groovemaster" himself, Jerry Jemmott. The great Jaco Pastorius was also a disciple of Jemmott. Jerry and David became great friends and still remain extremely close to this day.
