9 months agoTags
Description
Covanta Energy teamed up with the Town of Babylon on Long Island in New York, to sponsor the Covantage Ecotech Scholarship to enhance education in environmental-based sciences in the community. Scholarships were awarded to middle school students who submitted the best eco-tech science projects during the Town of Babylon's .annual May outdoor event. For 2010, the majority of scholarships went to students from The Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park, New York. In this video, winners, Samantha Pazenbeck and Olivia Eichorn, speak with Covanta Energy's Vice President of Environmental Science and Community Affairs, John Waffenschmidt about their projects. Also, Babylon's Energy Director and Chief Sustainability Officer, Dorian Dale, speaks about Covanta's role in the program. Covanta Energy owns and operates an energy-from-waste (EfW) facility in Babylon. EfW facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art air polltion controls unlike incinerators of the past, plus they recover energy from the waste combusted.
