Description
Christine Hitt - Vocals & Piano Tom Kennedy - Bass Rick Haydon - Guitar Jeff Hamilton - Drums Artwork by Miguel Freitas Artist Statement: When I compose my art, I try to express things as they appear to me and not always as they are in reality, they are all places in my mind. There is a certain European flavor visible in my work mainly due to my upbringing and all my travels. My pieces share a certain simplicity, which I feel allows the viewers to interpret the art with their own imagination hopefully taking them to their own...place in their mind. Biography: " Since childhood, Miguel Freitas has exhibited a strong will in reaching his life goals. He grew up in Lisbon, Portugal, later he moved to Toronto where he continued with his studies and received a Graphic Arts Degree. Miguel possesses an extreme artistic diversity and over the years has worn many creative hats. His ability to work with various media and styles has proven to be a great asset to his creative career. He has always pursued the arts in search of ways of expressing his creativity. Starting out as a photographer, and eventually venturing into the design industry, his success as a designer and illustrator eventually led him to positions working as Art Director for companies both in Canada and Europe. Although he enjoyed design, he longed for new challenges and creative freedom and so he ventured on his own and now works from his home studio in the Toronto Beaches. Miguel's unique technique and style has struck a cord with the public eye. Within his first year of exhibiting, his originals, they been sought after by various collectors worldwide. Miguel often states that, "Inspiration can occur anywhere, anytime." He documents these thoughts through simple sketches but the real depth of his work comes from his imagination. When composing his art, he tries to express things as they appear to him and not always as reality. His style and execution bring to mind images of great frescoes on old crumbling walls. The unusual use of mixed media and subject matter, are a perfect marriage...whimsical impressions of places in his mind. His use of vibrant colors is what often strikes people first. The colors are carefully chosen, giving off a strong presence and symbolic content to his work. The passionate reds, pure range of blues and warm yellows are seared into your memory, leaving you emotionally charged. You will lose yourself in the warmth and comfort of a familiar place. Each painting tells a story, drawing you closer and inviting you to touch its highly textured surface. The paintings convincingly depict the naive impressions and memories left in your mind years after visiting a place. Miguel truly uses a mixed bag of techniques and materials, his most important being, emotion and passion."
