BILL LLOYD • Boy King Of Tokyo • 東京の王子 Music Video by STEVE BOYLE About BILL LLOYD Bill Lloyd is a Nashville based songwriter, musician, recording artist and producer who is most often remembered as half of the late '80's RCA country-rock duo, Foster and Lloyd. Lloyd's diverse musical activities include working as a producer (ranging from Carl Perkins to MTV reality show indie-rockers, The Secret), a session player (from Brit-pop icons like Ray Davies of The Kinks and Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze to country legends like Buck Owens and Steve Earle), a sideman (Poco, Marshall Crenshaw and with Cheap Trick when they perform The Beatles Sgt. Pepper with orchestra) and as a songwriter (with songs cut by Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, Sara Evans, Keith Anderson, Hootie and the Blowfish and many more). He has recorded a string of critically acclaimed solo records that blend his melodic power pop sensibility with finely tuned song craft. During his three-year stint as the Stringed Instrument Curator at The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, he created the quarterly series Nashville Cats, which he continues to host. He's the music director for the First Amendment Center in Nashville. He also organized and plays in Nashville's high concept cover band, The Long Players (profiled on NPR's All Things Considered). Bill's lastest CD is "Boy King Of Tokyo." "I spent my first few years living in Japan where my dad served in the army in occupied Tokyo. I don't remember a lot and I ran across a cache of family photos that really made me wonder about what my life was like. I can't believe I'm the kid in the photos. . . so I wrote a song or two about it." -- Bill Lloyd For more on Bill Lloyd visit: http://www.billlloydmusic.net (Four L's in a row.) About STEVE BOYLE With a friendship that's lasted longer than three marriages, Steve Boyle has been following Bill Lloyd with a camera since he was assigned to field produce a story on Bill Lloyd & The December Boys in 1986 for TNN. As luck would have it, Bill knew of, and was a fan of Steve's early 80s North Carolina music videos of bands like Arrogance and The Spongetones. From there Steve was commissioned to Direct four Foster & Lloyd music videos for RCA Records in the late 80s, create Bill's one and only previous solo music video "Channeling The King" in the 90s, has been chronicling Bill's charity event performances of The Long Players since 2007 and was commissioned in 2011 to create the Foster & Lloyd reunion music video "It's Already Tomorrow." Steve has won over thirty regional, national and international awards for his work in music television production, including Emmy's, Addy's and a good number of international film festivals awards (and an entry in the Cannes Film Festival) as well as in the running for CMA Music Video Director of the Year, three years in a row. "For 'Boy King Of Tokyo' Bill offered me a challenge -- he wanted a music video but didn't want to be in it. Instead he gave me a ton of photos and a home movie from his toddler days in Tokyo and asked if I could make a video out of that! To make it a music video, he had to be in it in some way, so I shot his mouth singing the song and embedded Bill into his old photos, Clutch Cargo style. I always wanted to try my hand at animation, so I thought it would be fun to include the character of the Boy King in a mix of styles and eras of pop culture animation ranging from Bill's tiny tot days in the 1950s to today." -- Steve Boyle For more on Steve Boyle visit: http://skidmedia.com/sboyle.html For more of Bill Lloyd's music as seen through the lens of Steve Boyle, check out these links: (1987) Foster & Lloyd Mini Doc for TNN http://youtu.be/RfSy_Mt2VWE (1988) Foster & Lloyd "Texas In 1880" http://youtu.be/WEBgRF1hkDA (1988) Foster & Lloyd "What Do You Want From Me This Time" http://youtu.be/pAGncA1BlQ8 (1989) Foster & Lloyd "Before The Heartache Rolls In" http://youtu.be/OnKVBrLMSu8 (1989) Foster & Lloyd "Fat ...
