Description
Bill Bombeck reads his favorite Erma Bombeck column, "Daddy Doll Under the Bed," at the 2012 Erma Bombeck Writers' Workshop at the University of Dayton. To the delight of the crowd, he introduces the column by reading autographs from his wife's childhood autograph book, ending with one by her father. The June 21, 1981, column that Bill chose is one of Erma's more touching ones. It's about her father, who died when she was just 9. "When I was a little kid, a father was like the light in the refrigerator. Every house had one, but no one really knew what either of them did once the door was shut," the column begins. www.humorwriters.org
