Basque Wine Glass Dance

4y ago

The Basque Wine Glass Dance, known as the Maskaradak in the Basque language of Euskera, is an ancient dance that is extremely difficult to perform. As part of an intricate and choreographed routine, five dancers in ornate costumes must take turns jumping on a glass of wine and quickly bouncing off -- hopefully without breaking the glass or spilling the wine. In this video, the Maskaradak is performed by the Gauden Bat dancers during the July 2012 National Basque Festival in Elko, Nevada. Gauden Bat is a dance group from Chino, California, and was one of a number of dance groups from Basque clubs across the West that attended the Elko festival.
