Description
In the first quarter, hedge funds posted their best performance in five years, with the HFRI Fund Weighted Composite Index gaining nearly 5% as global equity and credit markets experienced broad-based gains to begin the year. Total capital invested in the global hedge fund industry increased to $2.13 trillion as investors allocated $16 billion of new capital, thus surpassing the previous record of $2.04 trillion set at mid-year 2011. The sector is consolidating and investors increasingly back onshore funds.
