Description

This is the full-length music clip of the DNA orchestra of the Session ‘Become a Cyborg’ at Pioneers Festival 2016. The piece is a celebration of pioneers in science & technology for the Festival’s 5th anniversary. The story: A creative-minded bio-engineer (Elsa Sotiriadis) was captivated by the idea of genetic circuits as cellular orchestra and discovered a musician's translation of DNA code into a symphony of life. News about a minimal genome (containing just the genes necessary for life) and learning about NFC technology at Pioneers, sparked an idea. Few weeks later, acclaimed composer, pianist and producer Stuart Mitchell had created an orchestral piece from the genetic data of the minimal genome (J.Craig Venter Institute) to reveal the hidden beauty of DNA to 2'500 visitors at the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna. With support of Pioneers, the showcase included a talk (Hannes Sjoblad) and the live implantation (Patrick) of a pre-programmed chip (Daniel) into Elsa's hand. It culminated in triggering the DNA orchestra by hand swipe (and sending a tweet along the way), accompanied by piano. Digiwell's booth greeted curious spectators afterwards and many new cyborgs were born! The project was a collaboration of startups across ecosystems to combine art, science and technology.
