80s VHS + PCM Adaptor Mixtape

Description

Before the advent of DAT machines and CD burners, PCM adaptors which plugged into a video recorder and represented the PCM audio data (0/1) as white/black pixels in a video signal were used. A $2 VHS tape can hold up to 8 hours of pure CD quality audio! Until CD burners came down in the late 90s, this was the best way to go, beating Minidisc which compressed the music sampled only at 32kHz, and DAT which cost up to 10 times as much for the tapes. The downside was that it wasn't a very portable solution, but it worked!
