Vote for Leah! http://skydmagazine.com/2013/05/callahan-award-2013-womens-ballot/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I received the pleasure of coaching Leah this past year on Georgia Tech's womens ultimate team, Wreck. Immediately, I was struck by her enthusiasm, positive energy, and commitment to the team. She was the central core of our offense, as a fierce and aggressive lefty handler. Leah's greatest strength is her throws -- she loves her huck, which is one of the strongest I've seen in womens ultimate, and her around forehand break is unstoppable. I remember being appalled when watching her play in 25mph winds in Charleston in February to see her still throw and complete full field hucks. Not only can Leah throw the disk better than anyone I've seen in college ultimate, she plays hard defense and always puts pressure on her man. Additionally, she is an outstanding teammate. Through giving letters (or meet sheets) to her teammates with inspirational quotes before tournaments, passing along the OG to people who make great plays, always cheering on the sideline, picking up her teammates when they are down, smiling all the time, not letting her own mistakes bring her energy and the teams energy lower, Leah has made her mark on her college team and she will never be forgotten as one of the top players in the Georgia Tech program. I am honored to be her coach, and I can't wait to watch her continue to bigger and better things in the club scene and beyond." -Alison "AD" Douglas, Atlanta Ozone Captain, Georgia Tech Wreck coach ------------------------------------------------------ "Leah lives in Atlanta, GA, and has played ultimate since 2008, her freshman year with Wreck, Georgia Tech's women's ultimate Frisbee team. When she found ultimate in 2008, she became a handler and has developed one of the best hucks in the women's game, college or club. Breaking the mark is second nature to her, and her cutters know this. When the disc is in her hands, they know what to do, and invariably the huck will come. In a recent windy day of ultimate, Leah helped Wreck advance the disc upwind to score several upwinders, clinching the win and breaking seed at the tournament overall. Leah's contributions on the field are only superseded by her contributions off the field. She constantly brings her teammates up, as she leads by example and encourages them to develop themselves as players. Inspiring her teammates, she created a "Meet Sheet" for one tournament earlier this year, complete with inspirational quotes mixed up with her teammates' names and numbers. At our first tournament, she brought out a huge scraggly piece of gold holiday garland and introduced the concept of the "Original Garland" (OG). Whatever Wreckie made a great play was donned with the OG, and honored with it until the next great play. She also was invited to try out for the U-23 World's team, a distinct honor, as tryouts were invite only based on a very large applicant pool. I had the pleasure of attending those tryouts, and I got to see her in action. Leah brought her A game, ripping it up in a mixed 3-on-3 scrimmage, bringing her solid, no-turnover game to 7-on-7 scrimmages, and cheering on her new teammates, many of whom she had just met hours previously. She blogged about this experience as well, and it's clear that even though she didn't make the final cut, she learned a ton from the experience and is using it to push herself even further." -Maddy Frey, Ozone player and Georgia Tech Wreck Captain
