Description

Unusual Traffic Signal - Melbourne Museum Victoria Australia. This unusual Traffic Signal was designed by Charles Marshall. He wanted drivers and pedestrians, particularly children, to know how much longer they had on the 'green'. Development began in 1936 and the first Marshalite was erected in Fitzroy. Production was delayed by World War Two, after which about 30 were installed in suburbs around Melbourne. The Marshalite at Aspendale was the last to remain in operation, helping to control traffic flow until 1966.
