Description

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has deplored the killing of Palestinians in Israeli attacks on UN schools during last year's war on Gaza. The comment was made after a UN inquiry found that at least 44 Palestinians were killed by Israel while sheltering at UN locations during the war. The inquiry says, in one case, a U-N girls' school was hit by 88 mortar rounds fired by the Israeli forces. Another girls' school was hit by direct fire with an anti-tank projectile. The UN chief ordered the inquiry after thousands of buildings were destroyed and at least 223 Gaza schools, either run by the UN refugee agency or Hamas, were hit. Israel’s 2014 war on Gaza killed more than 2,200 Palestinians, most of them civilians.
