Description

A documentation video for [uh-ten-shuhn]. [uh-ten-shuhn] is an interactive piece that aims to help users gain a better understanding of their minds in the midst of all the worldly distractions and pressures of society. It uses EEG technology to measure the user's ability to focus in the midst of all the worldly distractions. This is done by physically manifesting the inner working of the mind through five bowls of ferro fluid. The bowls are lined up vertically on a plinth and create patterns in progression according to the user's level of attention (i.e. all the bowls will remain black and static when the user is totally distracted or relaxed and all the bowls will create patterns when the user is fully attentive). Samantha Totera and Kimberly Yap are 4th year New Media students at Ryerson University. Both commuters from the GTA, their friendship blossomed during 2nd year where they began collaborating together on projects. Both ladies are interested and have been with robotics and Arduino-based projects such as their "Hobobot" that begs for spare parts when it senses passersby and "Curious Plant", an anthropomorphic artificial plant that observes and follows the users' actions.
