Description

Well its that time of year, the rainy season front is in place across southern china through Okinawa, typically late May to early June we see feature in place across the area and more often than not resulting in some form of flooding. This is holding true Average time of the rainy season today as well. In Okinawa nearly 200mm of rainfall was reported resulting in localized pooling up of water here. By the weekend these rains will start to taper off ushering in fairer weather. Where are seeing the more serious flooding is farther west here in to southern china where the stationary boundary has been dropping staggering amounts of rainfall. On Wednesday we saw up to 700mm in Macao and in Hong Kong the HKO issued there first black rain storm warning in three years. The result was a heavy amount of rain that also triggered a reported 15 landslides around the city. JMA 24hr Forecast There is still the risk of isolated storms popping up here but good news is that the bulk of the front has drifted farther south. Those conditions will remain in place on Thursday and Friday creating a relief from the rains. Yet a new low will develop over central china and bring another round of widespread showers and thunderstorms to the region. Once again there will be the risk of more severe weather and flooding rainfall with this one trough the end of the weekend in to next week. That same low will also go on to impact the rest of Japan by next week as well. For the time being though fair weather will dominate Japan and Korea keeping temperatures in to the high 20s. Warm weather also will linger over north eastern china through Saturday yet by Sunday showers will push in from the west ushering in cooler temperatures and a little relief from the heat for those in Beijing to Shanghai. The tropics remain quite today with nothing organized in the forecast. What we are still seeing is storms popping up across Northern Luzon due to the collision of the monsoonal flows. Also afternoon storms will continue to be triggered due to daytime heating.
