The government is currently working on the modalities for the free laptop program that is set to benefit primary school going children starting with class one pupils in January next year. According to education secretary Jacob Kaimenyi relevant departments in the ministry of education are already developing the content to be pre-installed ahead of the rollout date. The government has however not decided whether to implement the program in phases or roll it at a go out across the country. The project is set to cost between 20 and 70 billion shillings with each laptop estimated at between 28,000 shillings and 35,000 shillings.
