Dressing as the sci-fi villain from the "dark side", Ukraine's very own Darth Vader is known for storming the country's ministries with a team of white-clad "Stormtroopers" surrounded by press and cameras. While the man behind the mask has attempted to hide his identity, a simple trace of his phone number revealed that Vader is none other than alleged Ukrainian chief cybercriminal Dmitry Ivanovich Golubov. Golubov founded the Internet Party of Ukraine, a political party launched in 1997 and united under the slogan "electronic government against bureaucracy". Earlier this year the Ukrainian Darth Vader marched on Ukraine's Justice Ministry demanding recognition for the party after it was banned. According to the FBI, Golubov allegedly hacked into banking networks to steal credit card numbers and account PIN codes in the latter half of the 1990s. The information was then sold on carderplanet.com, an online marketplace for millions of stolen credit card accounts maintained and operated by a criminal group called Carderplanet. The theft and trading resulted in multimillion-dollar losses to banks and outlets. Golubov has made several other high profile public appearances in the Darth Vader suit. Vader and his stormtroopers attacked the base of known drug dealer on March 2, 2013. Women of Ukraine's capital Kiev received a special flower from Vader and crew for International Women's Day, celebrated in former Soviet states on March 8. Golubov was arrested in 2005 but later released on bond by Ukrainian authorities. Golubov has never been tried for his alleged cybercriminal activities.
