During the weekend of the US Open, American Express's Merion Experience at The U.S. Open Experience at Independence Mall brought the historic and legendary grounds of Merion Golf Club to life, allowing fans to walk in the shoes of past champions. During Championship Weekend, fans in downtown Philadelphia had the opportunity to attempt shots at five replicated U.S. Open at Merion moments in the American Express Merion Experience through interactive elements, such as: - Ben Hogan's 1-Iron Clincher lets you strike your best follow-through pose replicating this iconic Merion moment - Attempt Merion's deceiving 13th Hole with a swing simulator to navigate the deep bunkers, tough hole placement and steep green that challenge the pros. - Tee up for your own "Merry Mex" moment with Trevino's Sweet Victory, replicating Lee Trevino's cap-tossing, celebratory win at the 1971 U.S. Open - Take your chance at The Pressure Putt putting green - The Greenside Rough and Scottish-Style Bunker lets fans challenge chip two of Merion's most notorious course features As part of its continued commitment to future generations of golf, American Express donated $5 to The First Tee of Greater Philadelphia for each fan who participated in the American Express Merion Experience throughout the weekend (up to $75,000). With a minimum donation of $50,000, American Express will assist in refurbishing the youth driving range facilities at Walnut Lane Golf Club, located outside of Philadelphia, including installing new driving range tee boxes, outdoor and indoor netting, and building on-course storage for youth programming activities. The American Express Merion Experience is part of The U.S. Open Experience at Independence Mall, a special fan exhibit from the USGA that brought golf's national championship to life in the heart of historic downtown Philadelphia during the 113th U.S. Open Championship at Merion Golf Club. The week-long activation featured an official U.S. Open merchandise store, interactive exhibits, live broadcast of play and other unique opportunities for fans to be a part of the excitement of Championship weekend.
