Description

A US jury has found four former guards from the security firm Blackwater guilty of killing over a dozen unarmed Iraqis in Baghdad back in 2007. The jury in Washington said the ex-guards had acted wildly and out-of-control in an incident that eventually left 14 Iraqis killed and over a dozen wounded. It said it had found a key figure in the case, Nicholas Slatten, guilty of first-degree murder. Three other guards were found guilty of at least three counts of voluntary manslaughter. Slatten faces up to life in prison for murder. The other three face a mandatory minimum of 30 years in prison. The incident at the heart of the case caused an international uproar and also marred relations between Washington and Baghdad.
