Description

Attached is an updated rotation video by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) using the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) instrument. Captured between October 16th and October 24th. The video shows the emergence of the active region off the east limb and steady growth to reach an area size of over 2700 millionths, making it one of the largest visible sunspots in recent history. The active region does now appear to be in the process of spreading apart in a slow state of decay, but should continue to be monitored as the threat for additional solar flares will remain in place.
