Description

Classic game at The Riverside between Middlesbrough and Manchester Utd in April 2000. Andy Campbell put Boro 1-0 up only for Man Utd to come back and race into a 3-1 lead with goals from Ryan Giggs, AndREW Cole and a belter by Paul Scholes (the definition of "when he hits them they stay hit" is this goal!). Boro had a goal by Ricard disallowed for a foul by Brian Deane on Jaaaaap Staaaaaam but soon made it 2-3 with a goal by former Utd skipper The GUVNOR. Quinton Fortune then scored Utds 4th goal from what appears to be an offside position prompting Man Utd-esque protestations from Boro players to the linesman. Unfortunately, the quality of Andy Campbells & Curtis Flemings snot and spittle snarls is not quite good enough to get him to change his mind and the goal stood. As the replay clearly shows, it was the correct decision! Into stoppage time, Juninho then cuts inside two Utd defenders and curls in a great goal to make it 3-4...there's no "Robbo Time" though and the game ends 4-3 to Man Utd. Despite the defeat, anyone lucky enough to be at this game was witnessing a great Man Utd team at the peak of its powers with Beckham, Scholes, Keane, Giggs, Neville, Cole, Stam et al. More often than not during this era, Middlesbrough always gave them a tough game.
