Description
Over the past few decades, the earth has experienced an increase in average temperature. While scientists and others debate the cause or whether or not this is a natural or man-made phenomenon, there are nonetheless serious evident consequences that must be understood and addressed. Nowhere is the situation or evident than in the arctic and Antarctic ice caps where glacial mel, resultant habitat and modification, and other consequences are being explored by scientists and reserach organizations and studied by international policy-makers concerned about the implications of these changes for the future. In this 2:17 video produced by World Ocean Observatory and Compass Light Productions, Dr. Martin Sommerkorn of the WWF discusses the global ramifications of increasing polar melt. Filmed in 2009, Dr. Martin Sommerkorn's predictions for the affects of the melt and increased heat absorption are astoundingly accurate today.
