Description

Russian test pilot Andrei Varopaev revealed the unique features of Russia's new Yakolev Yak-130 advanced jet trainer on the sidelines of the MAKS-2015 air show at Zhokovsky Airfield on Friday. The Yak-130 is the first aircraft constructed entirely in post-Soviet Russia, Varopaev pointed out. Development of the advanced jet trainer - which is able to mimic the characteristics of fourth and fifth generation combat fighters such as the Sukhoi PAK FA T-50 - was started in 1991. In 2006 the aircraft conducted its maiden flight after an extensive test phase and entered military service in 2009. The avionics are completely digital; no analogue equipment is used in the cockpit, except for the sensors, Varopaev pointed out. In addition, all of the fighter's on-board equipment is designed modularly, which means it can be arranged in any combination.
