Description

The topic of private prisons, namely Corrections Corporations of America, has come up many times before as a drain on taxpayer money, being an inappropriate punishment for illegal immigrants, unfairly using of captive labor, having a disproportionate number of black men imprisoned, inappropriately treating employees, and more. But it isn't a topic talked about much by the mainstream media; the corruption has largely gone unheeded. Until...maybe now. Kanye West is drawing attention to private prisons and CCA with his newest single, "New Slaves:" I'll move my family out the country, so you can't see where I stay So go and grab the reporters, so I can smash their recorders See they'll confuse us with some bullshit like the New World Order Meanwhile the DEA, teamed up with the CCA They tryna lock niggas up, they tryna make new slaves See that's that private owned prison, get your piece today They prolly all in the Hamptons, bragging 'bout what they maid Are most Americans aware of the rapid growth of the private prison industry in this country? Do you think Kanye rapping about it will help open people's eyes to this problem? What can be done to change policies that create a financial incentive to lock up more and more of the citizenry?
