Description
FIAT has taken the sub-compact market by storm offering the 500 in numerous versions ranging from the base model Pop, to the Convertible 500c, to the high performance Abarth model. Now we have the FIAT 500e for the 2013 year. This electric sub-compact car has some of the highest ratings of any electric car on the market today. With an asking price of $31,800 and a 108 MPGe Highway Rating, the 2013 FIAT 500e is a welcome entry into the electric car market. http://www.autobytel.com/new-cars/fiat/ The FIAT 500e looks like your standard gas powered FIAT besides the Electric Orange paint job. FIAT made it a point that this fully electric vehicle would still look, feel, and drive like a regular car. There are a few exterior changes to make the 500e stand out just a little bit. Up front the lower fascia has been revised in an effort to move air more easily. The mirrors and wheels are more aerodynamic and the spoiler out back helps improve the aerodynamics by 15%. The real world driving range is about 88 miles which should help with range anxiety. The electric motor is an 83 kW unit that relies on 600 lbs. of batteries to produce 111 horsepower and 147 lb-ft. of torque. Driving the 2013 FIAT 500e is not much different than the regular model which is fun and nimble. This car is not as sporty as the other models but it still has the FIAT feel. The automaker did not want to lose any of that excitement. The suspension has been reworked to handle the added weight from the batteries. The result is an electric car that still feels like a FIAT 500. Overall this feels like your standard car driving experience except its quiet. Gone is the standard shifter replaced with buttons since this car has only one gear. The gauges are now digital and provide tons of info on the cars range and charge. The navigation system can show you nearby electric charging stations, your battery status, rate of usage, and a lot of other relevant info that the electric vehicle driver wants and needs. The 2013 FIAT 500e is very impressive and could be a gateway for more EV'ers to hit the road.
