SOURCE

Description

A British mining company is at the centre of a bitter dispute with Europe’s only indigenous people over its plans to drill for iron ore in the far north of Sweden. Around twenty thousand Sami live in Sweden. They’re part of an indigenous community stretching from Norway in the west to Russia’s Kola Peninsula. Sweden’s Sami have made a living from reindeer herding for thousands of years – but their traditional pasturelands are also rich with mineral resources.
