Description

Gipsy Moon perform their song “Fortune” in this music video recorded in the SecondStoryGarage.com studio inside the Daily Camera newsroom in Boulder, Colorado. If you set out to describe the spirit of the town of Nederland to someone who’s never been there, you’d do worse than to simply play the music of Gipsy Moon, a band that was born in Nederland and that seems to translate the town’s free-spirited, high-country, homespun, loose-fitting creativity into music. The string band has become a regular on the local festival circuit and wherever The String Cheese Incident/Leftover Salmon scene sees its music. They justify their hometown ambassadorship with instrumental talent and song-making skill. They also boast a legacy attraction in mandolin player Silas Herman — though the attraction, it turns out, is not his famous father, Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman, but Silas’ head-spinning feats of improvisation. The band also includes David Matters and Mackenzie Page on guitar, Andrew Conley on cello and Matt Cantor on bass. Gipsy Moon’s debut full-length album, Eventude, was produced by Dan Rodiguez, of Nederland’s flagship musical product, Elephant Revival. When Gipsy Moon visited the Garage, they played “Blue Skies,” “Never Know” and “Fortune.” What they brought us: A rock — but a special one. They explained it during their chat with Quentin.
