Description

The Chance is the first commission for KV-TV, the digital platform series by Kunst Vardo. The work is made by the artist duo G Â S T. Taking place on the eve of the Spring Equinox, The Chance, is a seasonal trial for a selected hero who must prove their worth in battle. Which is fought against a canopy of growth that plumes on the site of the carousel community of Poolsbrook. Each spectator is warmly invited to join this seemingly ‘outsider’ community and adopt a new identity and partake in the plentiful peculiar parades pantomime celebration in the lead up to the main event. Cheer or jeer is heard when a novice is elected to take centre circle. The Chance is a work that takes a skewed glance into the nature of a micro community and how ones place is found with in it. The work makes connections with the wider accepted and engaged ideologies and behaviors of the ‘big’ society. G Â S T is the collaborative practice of visual artists Laura Mahony and Dale Fearnley. Using found photography & objects, assemblage, performance, print and time based media, their work surveys folklore, myth and its curious relation to site. They draw narratives with idiomatic dialects and 'found' relics; G Â S T initiates tangible states of play. G Â S T have been involved in multiple projects including; Sunscreen Collection, One Thoresby Street, Nottingham. UK; Case for Curio, X-Church, Gainsborough.
