A deceptive Bloomberg hit piece portrays Alex Jones as a recruiting aid for terrorists, insinuating that his website motivated the Boston bombers in a transparent lobbying effort to get Jones kicked off the air on Sirius XM. Entitled Alex Jones Sells Gold on Sirius With Bombing Conspiracies, the piece, written by Annie Linskey & Prashant Gopal, attempts to smear Jones as a ruthless con man who exploits terror attacks to make money on gold sales. In reality, gold sales through Midas Resources represent a small part of Infowars' advertising and records show that the Boston bombings caused no spike in bullion sales whatsoever. Noting that a friend of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and others "obsessed by the violence" turn to Jones for answers, the article quotes the Southern Poverty Law Center's Mark Potok who says Jones, "Does not build bombs, he builds bombers," a flagrant attempt to smear the radio host as an inspiration for terrorists despite his widely publicized message of peace and non-violence.
