Description

Paulo Henrique Ott , PhD, professor at the State University of Rio Grande do Sul (UERGS) and researcher of the Group of Studies on Aquatic Mammals of Rio Grande do Sul (GEMARS) says “It is difficult to identify the specimen, but we believe is a Bryde´s whale. Due to the difficulty of identifying the morphological characteristics, we will use other tools such as DNA analysis to check it”, in Osorio on April 06, 2016. GEMARS was founded in 1991 and have been working on research and conservation of cetaceans and pinnipeds on the coast of Brazil since then. Today, research team of eight biologists and dozen of students and volunteers do work for the organization research and conservation of cetaceans and pinnipeds in South America, mainly in southern Brazil. ©2016 Rodrigo Baleia/GEMARS
