Description

Georgia Tech researchers have created a robot that has such human-like gait, the team outfitted it with pair of shoes. Many robots have been developed in recent times, but most either move around on all fours like dogs and cats, or simply roll from place to place like giant Roombas.  Not DURUS, the upright-walking humanoid created by researchers at Georgia Tech.  In fact, the robot has such human-like gait, the team outfitted it with a pair of shoes for treadmill walking purposes.  One of the robot’s developers described DURUS’ particularly smooth moves, noting it, “…is able to take much longer, faster steps than its flat-footed counterparts because it’s replicating human locomotion. Multi-contact foot behavior also allows it to be more dynamic, pushing us closer to our goal of allowing the robot to walk outside in the real world.”  In addition to dreaming of the day they take DARUS outside, the team is looking forward to developing robots with additional advanced skills, such as running and stair climbing.
